Planned Parenthood raises $400,000 in 24 hours

http://thehill.com/blogs/healthwatch/abortion/208067-planned-parenthood-raises-400000-in-24-hours

Supporters of Planned Parenthood have flooded the organization with enough donations to recoup almost all of the money that would have come from the Susan G. Komen foundation.

Planned Parenthood said it has raised $400,000 in online donations in the 24 hours since news broke that Komen would no longer fund cancer screenings at Planned Parenthood clinics. More than 6,000 people have donated, Planned Parenthood said.

The group announced yesterday a $250,000 donation to continue providing cancer screenings to low-income women.

"People respond powerfully when they see politics interfering with women’s health," Planned Parenthood said. "That’s why we’ve seen a tremendous outpouring of support. These donations will continue to help expand Planned Parenthood’s critical health care services nationwide, especially those affiliates impacted by the Komen cuts."

I always found it amusing that the people who tend to use the pejorative of "bleeding hearts" are also the same that scream "but think about the children!" when confronted with uncomfortable facts. Fact is, abortion is a small percentage of what PP does. Fact is, if the government can afford to muck around debating whether or not to reaffirm "in god we trust" as the national motto, or plan to plaster it on every federal building, The government can afford to provide reproductive care to the underprivileged. you want to talk about "Bleeding heart drama"? how about the far right's echo chamber sounding about the over-taxed billionaires or the many things that offend jesus?

I hope Nancy Brinker, repuke CEO of Komen, gets nationally disgraced and ruined and a real charity takes its place.

that's very good to see - and, b/c of this right wing assault, this puts PP in the news and generates more support, both financial and political, for the organization.

we need to have "cage matches."

Planned Parenthood vs the Florida anti-choice ass and his lies. Let people vote - which one do you prefer? who do you believe?

8. This funding needs to be sustained! Please consider becoming a recurring donor!

I do so through my local region via a program in which my employer allows payroll deduction for charity.

Your local region and/or the national organization may also have monthly donation plans available.

to show support for a worthwhile organization - that, for some reason, the right wing loves to hate.
