I recently had to order a keyboard for my laptop from tiger direct. I was given several options for shipping each with its own costs. 3 were usps, 2 were ups, 2 were fed ex. The two cheapest options were USPS (regular mail, priority mail) and the USPS had the cheapest next day service. In short, the USPS beat both of them on price and choice.

(12,448 posts)(that carriers kind of hate) is a growing trend for people, when moving to a new state, to mail their stuff to their new house because it gets there faster, in better condition, and cheaper than using a moving company.

(2,515 posts)Or maybe it's because they continue to make dumb 'business' decisions -
Deep in debt, USPS spends millions at business forum-Documents show the travel, $220,000 in exhibit space, and other incidentals will cost the USPS $2.2 million.

But I'm with you.
I use them over the others whenever possible. If they are willing to lose money why not take advantage of them and their lower prices?

(3,724 posts)The card had $50 cash in it. The letter carrier picked the card up at my door, around noon on a Saturday, and it was delivered to my niece by 1:00 PM on Monday. That's right, just slightly over 48 hours, door to door, for whatever the current price of a first class stamp is.
Try to get that with FedEx or Brown or whomever the Republicans are destroying the USPS for. Assholes.

(18,807 posts)I'm in Canada, so my usual options are various horrible courier companies, but now and then a site will have USPS as an option - not only does that mean they're cheaper, but they usually interface with Canada Post once they cross the border, making it much, much easier to actually receive packages if I do something crazy like have a day job. It might add a day or two to transit time, but between the price, having to go to the corner post office instead of a depot in the industrial park (if they're open), and not having to deal with arbitrary surcharges, it's more than worth it.
