(10,622 posts)Also he would appear to think that conflating SS with a budget it is not a part of is a good way to teach that if you squint real hard and use Enron accounting, money owed to a trust fund is really money owed BY a trust fund? I think some here even believe that now due to all his "teaching" efforts.

...but even you must admit that the once inviolate 3rd Rail (Touch It and You DIE) had been reduced to just another chip in the Big Game that WILL be pushed into the pot in every future Budget negotiation until....

(60,071 posts)included. That revenue is a deal breaker for the Republicans. The Senate budget is DOA in the house because it contains revenue and stimulus. The budget could include the total dismantling of SS, but as long as there is one cent of increased revenue, the Reps will vote against it.
Republicans fear a primary challenge, and the quickest way to get a challenger is to compromise on anything. Even McConnell is being pushed to the right because he accepted a compromise on fiscal cliff. There is talk of the Teabaggers challenging him in 2014.
As much as they bow before the mighty Saint Ronny, they ignore his more centrist stands. They worship the myth.
