For Repubs, the Tea Party chickens are coming home to roost...

They cannot decide on a nominee. Romney is unacceptable to the conservative base and Newt is unacceptable to every other Republican. They are reaping what they have sown.

It began when the establishment Republicans chose the Tea Party as their model. They only wanted to win the election. Now they have painted themselves into a corner. They cannot please either side.

It could not happen to a nicer bunch of people.

The leadership of that party was savvy enough to understand that a grassroots backlash was coming and they tried to preempt it by creating one. It was an effort to channel backlash into avenues that would support their agenda.

I like your line of thought, but the fact seems to remain that it has, as kentuck said, painted them into their own corner. Folks nobody else would vote for supported by the crowd, but they won't support the guy that the non-radical fringe would.

If they created it themselves, that might be even dumber.

and convinced them that they were serious about cutting spending. Eventually they were able to bring them back into the tent. Of course, you cannot lead anyone anywhere that they do not want to go.
