President Obama invited to duet with Al Green on "American Idol"

CBS) "American Idol" executive producer Nigel Lythgoe thinks President Barack Obama has what it takes to sing on the "Idol" stage, after his very brief rendition of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" during his speech last month at Harlem's Apollo Theater.

"@BarackObama we loved your vocal performance so much we'd love to invite you on to #AmericanIdol this Season for a duet with Al Green," Lythgoe tweeted.

Complete coverage: "American Idol"

Lythgoe wasn't the only person who thought the president's rendition was on point. Green told TMZ that Mr. Obama's snippet of his song was "terrific" and that "he nailed it."

President Obama Boosts Al Green's Sales Almost 500 Percent
Obama's singing of 'Let's Stay Together' at Apollo Theater last week upped sales of iconic 1972 hit.

Sure, clean energy, the return of manufacturing, a boost in education spending and saving the domestic car industry are awesome ways to revive the American economy. But another tactic President Obama might consider is more singing.

Because a week after the falsetto singer-in-chief unleashed his version of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" at an Apollo Theater fundraiser, sales of the good Rev.'s most iconic hit have taken off.

According to Billboard magazine, the viral video of the president singing the first line of the #1 hit from 1972 boosted sales of the song by 490 percent. In fact, the tune had its best week since SoundScan began tracking digital sales in 2003, with 16,000 downloads. The YouTube video of the impromptu recital has been viewed more than 4 million times.

Michelle Obama Says The President ‘Sings To Me All The Time’

First Lady Michelle Obama said her husband — a recent singing sensation — doesn’t hesitate to “show off his lungs” and sings to her all the time. ‪

President Obama proved his vocal ability when he sang a few lines of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” at a campaign event earlier this month.

‪”That was completely spontaneous,” Mrs. Obama told Jay Leno in an interview on NBC’s “The Tonight Show” on Tuesday night. “I didn’t even hear about it until it got on YouTube, but he does have a beautiful voice, and he sings to me all the time.” ‪
While the First Lady admitted, “I can’t sing,” she said the president doesn’t “hesitate to show off his lungs to his wife. He’s good.” ‪

But I'm sure he appreciates the compliment -- and the free air time.

No dancing a jig is not the same thing as singing. There are many talented people who can dance, as well as many talented people who can sing.

and not HALF.

The first African-American president and a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, Barack Obama has already made his mark on U.S. history. But that doesn’t stop the President of the U.S. to donate his time and volunteer wherever he can.

Last year, Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize for his humanitarian efforts and for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy.

He spoke at an event for K.I.D.S., a charity supporting disadvantaged children. He says of the charity, “It is time for a sense of empathy to infuse our politics in America… K.I.D.S. has spent over 20 years making this a reality. Now it is time for the rest of us to catch up. I look forward to making that happen.”

Obama also spoke at a charity event for girls in Omaha, helping to raise $154,000 for the group.

Besides donating and volunteering, Obama also praises other people for their humanitarian work. He served as a surprise guest at the “Let Freedom Ring!” event. Obama heartily praised Dikembe Mutombo for his efforts to bring health care and education to Democratic Republic of the Congo

They are both classy in their own right. You can't just prove a negative by posting a picture of the President and saying "And not classy". Nice try though really.

American Idol won't be around in 5 years. I don't see the show lasting another year, especially if another Scott McCreery type wins.
