I know of only one person who's actually climbed it (in the heat of mid-summer), but he was given permission by Egyptian antiquities authorities.

I agree the pictures are breathtaking, but there is more than one reason why people aren't allowed to climb the pyramids:

1. It's dangerous; and
2. It hastens the degradation of the stones.

I really don't want the Great Pyramids ruined because thrill-seekers decided they could disobey the rules and climb all over these ancient monuments.

In fact, your avatar is a hieroglyphic used sometimes to denote his name; although his name is a modernized version.

Now I know. I'd never do it, though, the main reason being that I wouldn't want to risk going to an Egyptian prison.
