Inasmuch as "ermahgerd" is said to be the pronunciation of "oh my god" by a person with a speech impediment, why is it necessary to use it here? Even though it has gained some popularity in lolcats, it can still be seen as derogatory by someone who has such a speech impediment. "Cutesy" is not necessarily kind or considerate.

It's not mocking people with a speech impediment. It's mocking the speech patterns of people with braces and headgear, whom I don't believe are a protected class of citizens just yet.
