Do you know of anyone who cheered on the illegal invasion of Iraq who also wants the draft (Original Post) raccoon Mar 2013 OP

You're right. But Hagel is not the only one. Many of us voted for Obama as the anti-war candidate AnotherMcIntosh Mar 2013 #6

But nobody wants the draft back, unless it's absolutely necessary. Which it isn't.

I know of a few who still think the US was right to invade Iraq.

But they don't want the draft

They want draft but not the war, fine I say. But do not think a draft will somehow magically preclude our government from waging war for fear their kids will be drafted, they always found a way to exempt their own and will so again if it ever came to that.

most have been elevated to high office like Hagel. Or they retain the exact high status they had previous to being proven idiots, like Andrew Sullivan and Chris Matthews.

but why would they? It isn't like we needed the draft..plenty of poor families who can't afford to send their kids to college out there who's kids signed up voluntarily for benefits of the post 9-11 GI Bill...or other enticements offered by enlisting in military service.

They wanted war, power, blood, money. They thirsted for it like a horse after a long ride. They wore flags, they saluted carboard cut-outs of the President, they filled the airwaves with the visions of murder and planted the seeds of revenge with every falsehood uttered to the public.
All that mattered, or will ever matter, to the sociopaths who have no remorse for others and thus rise the ladders of big business, is the dollar bill.
All that matters to our politicians is appeasing the highest donor for their services.
If we keep repeating this cycle we will only see more of the same. The eventual thirst for another display of force and the veiled desire for more lands and people to exploit will grow like a tide with each dollar in the markets, a tide that will carry people away in a self gratifying orgy of pretend patriotism for personal gain and lead to more calls for youth to carry the mantle of freedom.
