"Comedian Lizz Winstead, co-creator of The Daily Show and author of Lizz Free or Die: Essays, weighs in on the backlash from the decision on the part of Susan G. Komen for the Cure to stop funding breast-cancer screenings provided through Planned Parenthood. Winstead considers whether politics played a role in the nonprofits policy reversal: I think she [Karen Handel] said it herself when she was running for governor, when she said, I dont support the mission of Planned Parenthood. And the mission of Planned Parenthood is to provide affordable health care for low-income women. And if you dont support that mission, I dont know how you can call yourself pro-life in the least.

(58,273 posts)next chicken eater but if my stated mission were fighting against cancer, I wouldn't be pushing fried foods.
This leads me to believe they're using the very real concerns of women specifically and everbody in general in regards to the fight against cancer more as a political vehicle.

"In April 2010, Komen received national attention when it paired with fast food restaurant chain KFC to offer "Buckets for the Cure," a promotion in which fried and grilled chicken was sold in pink branded buckets. The collaboration garnered criticism from media outlets including The Colbert Report[62] and Bitch magazine,[61] and it raised concerns about the promotion of unhealthful eating habits and obesity.[63] KFC contributed over $4.2 million to Komen, the largest single contribution in the organization's history.[64] The partnership with KFC, which has since ended, allowed Komen "to reach many millions of women that they had been unable to reach before," said Brinker. Brinker did not quantify this opinion with hard numbers. [58]"
I mean what's next pink packs of Camel cigarettes to kick cancer's ass?
