Wisconsin falls to 44th nationally in private-sector job creation

Wisconsin ranked 44 out of the 50 states in private-sector job creation, according to the latest available government jobs data deemed credible by economists.

The data, which covers the 12 months from September 2011 to September 2012, shows that Wisconsin's position deteriorated progressively from a rank of 42 out of 50 in the previous 12-month period through June 2012; and from a rank of 37 in the 12 months through March 2012.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released the data Thursday. The data, called the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages, is based on a census of 96% of all American non-farm employers, public and private, which makes it the most exhaustive and credible information available on job creation. Because it is so complete, the data always comes with a half-year time lag...

...Wisconsin ranked 11th among the 50 states in 2010 in private-sector job growth. But it dropped to 38th in 2011. The attached table shows the long-term trend and based on the quarterly census data...
