Good Article About the Republican Family Values Double Standard

Steve Rendall, of Fair.org has written a blog post discussing the double standard that presents itself when Democrats and Republicans engage in poor personal behavior. The post was written in response to the media's reaction to Mark Sanford's political comback after he admitted to having an affair and lying about the affair.

Rendall first points out the articles and news stories that claim Sanford's political comback is "unlikely". He also gives the media's explaination for why Eliot Spitzer and Anthony Weiner (both Democrats) have not made similar political comebacks. A political consultant is quoted as saying the difference between Eliot Spitzer, Anthony Weiner and Mark Sanford was the tabloid dominated New York media. Here Rendall disagrees with the political consultant and begins to explain his disagreement with the whole idea that Mark Sanford's political comeback is remarkable. Rendall states Sanford's comeback is only surprising if you fail to realize he is a Republican. Rendall then lists a few Republican men who have cheated on their wives and were allowed to make political comebacks and compares them to Democratic men who behaved in similar manners, but have not yet been allowed to make political comebacks. Rendall ends the blog post by giving an example of this double standard by showing how Sean Hannity handled two different politicans who had cheated on their wives. As you can probably already figure out one of the politicans was a democrat and the other was a Republican.

Even though Democrats are well aware of the double standard the post is interesting. Rendall does a good job of showing that it is not unusual for Republicans to behave poorly in their personal lives and maintain their political careers.
