Paging Dr. Carson

When I heard Dr. Ben Carson, ostensibly a brilliant pediatric neuro-surgeon, opine bizarrely on the gay marriage issue, my memory immediately went to, of all things, that old episode of "M*A*S*H" in which Harry Morgan plays Gen. Steele: "But first, a number!"

Oh, the irony. . .

A couple of years ago I watched the film of his life: "Gifted Hands"
and rewatched it on Netflix stream not long ago.

It's sad that he has aligned himself with the Republicans and now has such a narrow view on human rights.

although said in a mild-mannered tone, was extremely insensitive and ugly in addition to incorrect, as consenting adults shouldn't be compared to rapists. His attempt to explain it by talking about apples, oranges, and bananas was just plain weird and insane. He's generally recognized as a very accomplished doctor in his field but I'm wondering how an intellectual could deliver the strange and twisted explanation as a so-called apology. And how can a man who has extensively studied science, particularly in the biological sciences be an evolution denier?
