Th CNN documentary of the shooting of Reagan is sponsored in large part by

Tena...that of the Tena Twist.

Somewhat ironic and vaguely weird....

Sure remember exactly where I was that day, teaching Dental Students. I made the announcement to 160 students and about 20 faculty. The Kennedy assassination had only been 17+ years before and was still relatively fresh in our minds. Complicated day and night.

...when I heard the news on the car radio. The TV at the restaurant was on CBS - Dan Rather was filling in for Uncle Walter (before his eventual takeover a few months later).

The whole event seemed, at the time, not very serious. It took a few years for the truth to come out (that he was more seriously wounded than what was reported at the time).

My mother spotted the mental changes immediately. I was working odd hours and managed to either avoid the news or avoid him on it.

As you said, the memory of the JFK assassination was still clear to many people and the news about President Reagan being shot brought that awful fear right back. I was working at my first job, hadn't been there all that long and went in late in the afternoon, so I'd seen the news bulletin with Frank Reynolds on ABC. We had a brand new head of the company and he was waiting by the door when I walked in. He asked me if James Brady was dead, the first time I'd ever spoken with him, and I said "yes," because I'd just heard it on TV.
