(25,927 posts)How DARE they honor that rabble-rouser instead of our [s]pagan fertility rite[/s] holiest of days!
On edit: the DU dashboard apparently doesn't provide for 'strikethrough,' and the bracketed 's' and '/s' around 'pagan fertility rite' didn't work either.

That' all I see.
Nevertheless, Easter is 'celebration' for a religious sect.
The birthday of Cesar Chavez is a documented fact ... no mythology involved.
Since Google is available for all kinds of people, regardless of religious beliefs, they made the correct call, if it really matters.

It can do whatever it wants as long as it complies with the law.
If folks don't like it they are free to take their business elsewhere.
Like I do with Fox - never watch it and never will as long as it's a right wing mouthpiece.

(8,352 posts)It just happens to coincide with Easter this year.
Google is in CA where it is an official state holiday.
Really there is no conspiracy on either side.

(6,336 posts)Perhaps because I live on the east coast, but is this day also his birthday?
(It's my birthday too and I like to know who I'm in company with).

(8,352 posts)I have learned more about Cesar Chavez since moving to Arizona from the east coast many decades ago.
I thought is was a wonderful coincidence. Chavez was a better Christian than most who claim to be so today.

(36,988 posts)Radical right-wing conservatives Michelle Malkin, Ben Shapiro, and some people named Pat Dollard and Ed Driscoll are bunny-hopping mad that Google is honoring the birthday of Mexican-American civil rights and labor leader César Chávez on Easter Sunday instead of Jesus by giving him todays Google Doodle. So very Christ-like of them.
Michelle Malkin, a Roman Catholic (as was Chávez,) via her Twitchy website that masquerades as a news site: Googles Easter insult sparks Twitter backlash, mockery
Pat Dollard: TYPICALLY ANTI-CHRISTIAN LEFTIST COMPANY GOOGLE HONORS CESAR CHAVEZ ON EASTER SUNDAY INSTEAD OF JESUS
And this, via Breitbarts resident bully, Ben Shapiro:
March 31 marks the birthday of National Farm Workers Association (later United Farm Workers) co-founder Cesar Chavez. Chavez, who was trained by Saul Alinsky in the tactics of community organizing, has become a cult figure in California due to his organization of agricultural workers. March 31 also happens to be another important date this year: Easter. So, naturally, Googles current logo features a graphic of Chavezs face, rather than anything having to do with Easter.
This is not the first time that Google has chosen to honor leftists over tradition. Back on July 4, Google plastered the words This Land Was Made For You And Me in its logo, in honor of Communist fellow-traveler Woody Guthries This Land Is Your Land. On Christmas, Google featured a holiday-themed logo that popped up this window: Happy Holidays from Google!
The anti-Chávez, anti-Google ignorance is in full bloom on Twitter, via the hashtag #GoogleMottos. Chávez, a Roman Catholic, was instrumental in organizing and obtaining basic rights for 50,000 field workers in California and Florida, and co-founded the National Farm Workers Association which became the United Farm Workers union (UFW). Chávezs biography at the César Chávez Foundation notes:

(4,695 posts)working poor. There are 1 billion Catholics world wide. There is a new Pope honoring the fact that women washed the feet of Christ and used their hair to dry his feet. I believe that Google took the middle ground as it could not come up with a woman of our times, it found a man of our times who was in great service to the working poor of the world.

(100,062 posts)Obama dedicated today to honor the labor rights activist. The fact that today is also Easter is just a coincidence. I'm glad that Google is honoring him, the world needs more of him and less Waltons, Kochs, and Kardashians in this world.
