Most LOCAL Komen Affiliates OPPOSE the national board's politically-motivated decision.

I feel so bad for all the LOCAL affiliates of the Komen Foundation who oppose this decision to throw PP under the bus, but they are stuck with it. I know many of the people involved with the local affiliate of my state, and they are soooooooooo upset. And I have been hearing that they are hearing from many other local affiliates who are just as upset. It is too bad because these local folks have been taking most of the heat. It is so tough for them because Komen National is not listening to the locals, and the locals by policy are not allowed to speak out in protest publicly (though it looks like CA is doing so anyway). So please, whatever you do, urge people to direct their fire at Brinker, Handel, and the NATIONAL Komen administration who are the ones doing this. They are not only throwing PP under the bus. They are also throwing their own local affiliates under the bus. Also, do as I did and please make an online donation to national PP right away. You'll feel at least a little better.

much scrutiny have been known for a very long time. I understand that the local affiliates are unable to say anything publicly, but were they bringing any pressure to bear on national? did they protest the 25% going to salaries and other admin costs? or does national not even bother listening?

national board everything that is happening at the local level, forwarding emails, calls, etc. from what I am being told. The locals can't DO anything about this decision. It is a NATIONAL board decision ENTIRELY.

in a heartbeat if they want to. Again, from what I've been told locally, the ARE sending emails, making calls, etc. to Komen National urging them to reconsider this bad decision. That is all they can do. Komen NATIONAL is the BOSS, not the local affiliates.

12. I understand, but if enough locals stand up, is National going to pull em all?

I doubt it. I think if the locals stand together, the org will back down. They'll have no choice.

This is what always happens- these self-righteous anti-choice "cry me a freakin river" folks are always shocked and surprised when they find out how many of us pro choice people there actually are.

organization. I could tell the PR woman was upset -- she made a point of telling me it was national's decision, not theirs. I said I understood, but that I'd appreciate it if she'd pass along my comments and then I also called the national org. and left a message (and also emailed them).

public LOCALLY with protest statements, they can lose their charters, and that hurts the local grantees. Don't you get it. They are doing all they can. From what I am hearing, many local high level volunteers and some local paid staff have already resigned in protest.
