Thought of the Day: (They are taking Cesar Chavez out of school books)

Happy Cesar Chavez Day

When migrant worker Cesar Chavez went on a hunger strike to protest the horrendous working conditions in the grape fields. No one ate grapes, not my Irish side of the family, who were all Steamfitters, not my Italian side, who were Concrete Masons, Garment Workers and Mom and Pop business owners, nor any of the neighbors! No one would be caught dead with a bundle of grapes or wine. No one cared that they were migrant workers, they heard that workers were hurting and needed help and they all stood in Solidarity. It took 40 years for them to teach us not to stick together, now Texas, the state which all textbooks are based on, has removed this labor hero from all text books. The young Latino, which is probably the largest upcoming population in this country, will no longer have a labor hero, there will be no teaching of solidarity, standing up against unscrupulous employers has been truncated from the curriculum, it's amazing how deep the hatred of workers and labor unions goes. Much respect for Google to take this simple stand for education. They make learning about Chavez one click away.

My poor little kids got so tired of my telling them about real history ( this was way before computers)
at the dinner table
and I gave them my Doonesbury books to read when they were 10-12.

It paid off.
That is what we have to do, we have to counter the "education" they get in schools.
If I had to do it all over again, I would homeschool my boys.
But that is a time luxury a lot of parents do not have.
