Supporting Komen?

I think the hypocrisy of the Komen foundation stinks. Are there any plans to boycott them and give to other cancer groups instead?

If so, I think we need to spread the word, and give more money to groups which aren't using their "political clout" to dance around the donor polls. Any group who panders to the religious right doesn't deserve any money whatsoever, IMHO.

For the Cure of Sanctimony, or something like that. Let the Komen ambulance chasers go to court over that one!

a cure for bullshit, wingnuts and the religious right? Where people like Vitter can get the negative publicity he deserves, and put on the rocks like he needs to be?

Like many others, too. I always figure that there are too many people out there who aren't paying attention to the signs of cancer. I know--my SIL waited a long time before going to a doctor, and she ended up with stage 4 rectal cancer.

The thing is, there is an awful lot of cancer out there, of many different types, causes and configurations. But the amount of attention paid to the Komen foundation is severely out of proportion to the monies needed for research of other cancers. For instance, there are many women with lung cancer, a form of cancer that doesn't discriminate between men and women, and colorectal cancer, like my SIL, which is WAY underreported and underfunded, simply because the people can't discuss it because of its location.

I think it's a good thing that the Komen foundation is doing this shit, because maybe it'll make people realize that breast cancer isn't the only cancer out there that bears attention, and perhaps helps out some of these others that need more money to have research done for them.
