http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/02/03/orrin-hatch-obama-thinks-hes-jesus-christ/Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) is offended that President Barack Obama quoted scripture to make the case for a fairer tax policy.
Speaking to a group of mostly-conservative politicians at the annual National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, the president proved that conservatives do not have a monopoly on using religion to advocate for specific public policies.

Kind of stings that your own form of arguing is used against you isn't it, Orrin.

(27,439 posts)Conservatives think they are the only ones entitled to quote the Bible to make a point. Personally, I wish that no one in government did it but since that horse left the gate ages ago I'm glad Obama threw this back in their faces.

(4,847 posts)I remember Hatch during the anita hill-clarence thomas hearings. And then, there was the gropenfuhrer-more than one woman came forward about being "manhandled." And what was orrin's response? Something about youthful indiscretions? Even if it was recent, it's still a youthful mistake?
I read he once accidently locked his wife in the car-I guess he kind of forgot about her. Reading the article, I wondered why she couldn't get out of the car-something about special locks. I'm thinking he's got a problem with women, probably thinks they're useful vessels and that's about it.
So, now if Obama quotes the bible, he's now jaysus. See, nobody can quote the bible, unless you're worthy to quote it; and apparently the black muslin had the audacity to quote from the bible. I tell ya, it's sacrilege.

(4,847 posts)the repugs would be the first to nail him on the cross. reminds me of the story when jesus returns and the bishop of the church recognizes him and tells him we don't need or want you. We've got a good thing going.

(18,184 posts)I've never heard a Repub quote extensively from Jesus' sayings in the New Testament.
I think a lot of liberal christians (and even agnostics) actually agree with the social message of Jesus.
And it's about time that conservatives decide if they want to be Social Darwinists or Christians because the two messages are not compatible.

(28,784 posts)It's great when they want to quote scripture that goes against the entire theme of the life of christ - but when someone plays their game and beats them, they can only whine.
Fuck the religious right in this nation, and not in a good way.

(50,261 posts)In fact, the C Streeters who host the prayer breakfast don't especially care about the poor, the sick or anyone else in need. They believe they are God's chosen few and their mission is to make the wealthy and powerful more wealthy and powerful. Last night Rachel ran a video of the righteous Rick Santorum literally laughing at a poor woman asking a question about kids dying because their parents couldn't afford chemo. He, of course, was defending the drug companies. They're all scum in the ugliest pond.

(119 posts)I am sure Hatch and his ilk would deny him, demand to see his birth certificate, ostracize him for having two fathers, incarcerate him (ICE) and have him deported on the next space shuttle mission. Not to mention arrest him for feeding the poor without a permit, call him anti-american for wanting to end wars, kick the money lenders out of government and on and on.

(6 posts)Obama is way out of step here- America isn't a Theocracy. Jesus never exercised the use of force. Forcing somebody to relinquish their property is far from what God does- God encourages- if you don't do what he advises- you suffer the natural consequence which is remorse of conscience. Senator Orrin Hatch can be accused of the same however. He's picked HIS winners and losers with plundered funds (taxes). He's also driven this country into the ground with his 17 votes to increase the debt by 7.6 trillion dollars
