I have several right-wing neighbors/'friends' with whom I discus politics occasionally. They don't like the Newt. Why?
They like his feistiness, they think he would certainly beat and be better than Obama but I was surprised at the reason they gave for not loving the Newt. It relates to a strange characteristic my fascist friends all seem to share.
For some strange reason, they don't view Social Security and Medicare as Socialist. To them, Medicaid is definitely Communism, but not Social Security and Medicare. They think of Social Security and Medicare more as an insurance policy. Insurance they've bought and paid for; and a right of passage through old age. They want it untouched for themselves and their children.
They think the Newt would destroy Social Security and Medicare as they know it and they want no part of that. I tried to show and convince them that Social Security and Medicare is pure Socialism, American-style, to which one replied, "Only a Communist would say something like that."....and I then proceeded to thank my fascist friend....

And she didn't like it when we pointed out the, um, irony.
She was my mom, I loved her a lot, but she was way off base about the role of government.
