Turns Out Komen Vice Pres. Karen Handel is Anti-Gay Everything
Komen for the Cure Vice President for Public Policy Karen Handel is anti gay everything. Shes wholeheartedly agaisnt gay marriage, civil unions, absolutely agaisnt gay adoptions and domestic partner benefits.
In a 2010 interview with an NBC affiliate in Georgiajust one year before she took the job at KomenHandel bloated about supporting Georgias constitutional amendment against gay marriage.
Ive been very clear. And you know, as a Christian, marriage is between a man and a woman, she said in the interview with Atlantas WXIA-TV.
And its something that I supported wholeheartedly, she said. ................(more)

(11,550 posts)Karen Handel ran for Governor here in 2010, and the GOP primary became a contest as to which of the nominees could be the most anti-gay. Unfortunately, that sort of thing plays very well with the GOP base in this state.
The eventual primary winner and our current Governor Nathan Deal is certainly no peach (no pun intended), but Karen Handel is simply FOUL!!! I am so thankful that she did not win the Governorship and that she is out of public office. Although, it is shameful to see the damage that she is trying to do with her Christianist views in the private sector.
I hope Komen can dump her quickly, though it does concern me that she was ever selected to be a VP there in the first place.

(11,550 posts)That was clearly a lie, as membership rolls show her as a member. Handel just strikes me as an opportunist who will do whatever it takes to gain power for herself. The LCR fools were only pawns to her as she was running for local office. But winning a GOP nomination for statewide office here in Georgia requires the candidate to be vociferously anti-gay, and that's what she became.
Being a gay man living in Georgia, it was painful to watch.

And for those of us who are not "Christian"?
Sorry, you want to follow the rules in some 2000 year old book that has been translated 200 times? Be my guest. I should not have to follow those rules as I am not "one of you".

We have a game-changer in the Republican contest for governor.
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin today endorsed former secretary of state Karen Handel and her underdog bid for the GOP nomination.
The Handel endorsement appeared on Palins Facebook page the same manner in which she endorsed GOP candidate for governor Mary Fallin of Oklahoma last month.
Palins endorsement of Nikki Haley in the Republican race for governor of South Carolina was deemed crucial to Haleys surge last month.
