Debunking the so-called “War on Religion” - From AttackWatch.com (Obama Campaign fighting smears)

Debunking the so-called “War on Religion”

The GOP candidates have been tossing around a few particularly egregious attacks lately about President Obama and the faith-based community. Mitt Romney said that President Obama is forcing "religious organizations to violate their conscience."

His biggest piece of "evidence" is the Obama administration's recent decision to protect women's health by making sure all women have free access to contraception. No one will be forced to buy or use it, but for women who use it, it will be available.

It's time to lay these attacks to rest.

Obama Deputy Campaign Manager Stephanie Cutter put together six things to know about this decision. Check them out, then help spread the truth.

1. Contraception is important for women's health

Scientists and medical experts agree that contraception is important for women's health. The fundamental belief behind this decision is that women should have access to this care, without having to worry about cost.

2. Churches are exempt from the new rules

Churches and other houses of worship will be exempt. Other religious organizations that employ women regardless of their faith, like hospitals and universities, can qualify for an additional year to transition to the new rules.

3. Individual religious beliefs will be protected

Just as no woman will be forced to buy or use contraception, these rules do not affect the "conscience clause," meaning no doctor will be forced to prescribe contraception.

4. More than 75% of Catholic women are actually behind this

There's widespread support for covering birth control at no cost: 71% of Americans, and 77% of Catholic women, support it. And 98% of American Catholic women who have had sex have reported using contraception.

5. This will reduce employer costs

The National Business Group on Health found that it could cost an employer 15-17 percent more not to provide contraception coverage.

6. The President stands with the faith-based community

These new rules are consistent with the President’s commitment to religious liberty. The President is proud of his administration’s partnerships and strong support of faith-based organizations.

For more information on these, you can click here.

So there you have it.

These attacks from Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, and other Republican figures are an attempt to divide faith-based groups for political gain. What they can’t do is change the truth behind the administration’s work to protect women’s health and its dedication and partnership with Catholic and other faith-based communities.

Now, we need your help to spread the word about the administration’s stance—particularly to folks who may have heard these unfounded attacks. Use our tools on the right to pass this on.

2. War On Religion

War on religion as it is being used now is fair game. Besides that non of the fundy religions are really religions at all. Any sick bastard can get a bible and put up a tent. The fundies are just bible and religion selling outfits for profit. They are more tools of Satan than Christ. Any religion that attacks the poor and advocates starving women and children is NOT religion.

The fundies are just white supremacist racist assholes using the bible and religion to hide behind.

Religion is holding this country back so much now, in terms of research on stem cell treatments, that we're getting left in the dust by the rest of the world. Religion is being used to try to keep women from getting abortions, when having the baby is much more likely to cause death, and there's even talk of outlawing them even in cases of rape or when the woman will die giving birth. Or when the baby is already dead! Miscarriages are being called murder.

It's not like there hasn't been a war on religion for decades anyway. The more insane Christians have been at was with other religions for a long time, but also, they are at was against Christianity itself in that they supress the teachings of Jesus that say to help the poor and all the rest that we've been talking about here for years!

One of my closest friends, S, was on the Pill until just recently. She's single, never married, and no prospects of it. She's a devout Catholic. Why was she on The Pill, do you ask? She had uterine polyps that were causing her to menstruate constantly. The hormones in The Pill helped her to regulate that. It's a good thing that S lives in a major metropolitan area, because she was actually denied her prescription by one pharmacist because she was unmarried. She just told him to MHOB and took her business elsewhere.

The reason it's an attack on religion is because Obama has no reason to infringe upon the Catholic religion concerning this. First of all such contraceptives can be gotten just as easily at other locations. I mean since when do you need to have had an appointment to pick up condoms at your local hospital?

Democrats are staying consistent with their pattern of insistence that people cannot do things for themselves, thus they must be unnecessarily coddled, even at the expense of a religion's First Amendment's right.

It's alright though, I seriously doubt they can get such a thing past the Supreme Court, and if they do manage to actually get the Supreme Court to rule it constitutional in favor of the religion of Atheism, then it's just a sign of the times. We're not going to last forever, and so long as the complacent, foolish, and those who refuse to learn from the past keep getting their leaders into office and gaining in power, it's only a matter of time before all we hold dear becomes too far gone to ever be recovered and the destruction of all we held so dear, essentially our destruction as a nation will finally be complete. Then in our incredible evolutionarily improved intellect and wisdom we can unnecessarily insist on learning the hard way what we and others have already learned the hard way. What's most sad about this is how utterly unnecessary learning the hard way about this is. But I guess what we'd be learning the hard way is how much we need to honor the lessons of the past, stand up, and refuse to allow government the power to violate our rights. But it's hard to do that when the complacent naive grow in number every generation and insist on learning the hard way.
