Meet the next Senator from Georgia

Saxby Chambliss is retiring, and his seat is an open one in 2014. Many people think that if we can just paint the Republicans as obstructionist, or show the voters how RW they are, that we can win seats, especially open ones. I prefer reality, where we assess the situation honestly. I discussed Gerrymandering, and how in Georgia, Jack Kingston was as safe as he could be in his seat. The example I gave was the only way he would lose his seat was if he was caught with an underage girl, or boy.

Jack Kingston announced he is running for the Senate Seat vacated by Saxby Chamblis. You might as well write off that Senate Seat and call it done. He'll win the primary, unless there is another powerful Republican with powerful friends who is interested. If you think Kingston announced this without checking statewide with those who could give him a serious run, you're nuts. That leaves his House seat open. Forget it. The district is solidly Republican. Kingston has never gotten less than 66% of the vote since he got the seat. That district would rather vote for Satan than a Democrat, which is why many of those elections were unopposed.

But we'll toss some money at someone who is going to beat Jack Kingston, and take back the Senate. Then we'll toss some money at the House Race thinking we can take that seat while we're at it. We'll lose both, and we'll waste some money in the process.

I'll close with the reason Jack Kingston thinks he can win.

"Well, for one thing, we want to win the majority in the Senate so we can start having reforms for entitlement, reforms on spending, reforms on job creation. So that America can get moving again. I would be in the top 10 percent of the conservative members of the Senate," said Kingston.

Kingston said his branding as one of the most conservative members in the Congress race will help him in the Senate race.

Out with the old, a Conservative Rethug. In with the new, an even MORE conservative rethug.

country to his knees so be it and be done with it. Let the republicans win and destroy the country. When they are finished maybe then people will realize dems only want to bring everyone up. I'm sick of hearing this crap. It's so disappointing. God help our children and grandchildren. Why can southern republicans who are working poor realized they are being screwed over and over.

3. The only way a Democrat would get elected in this state

Is if they were even more RW than the Republican. The last Democratic Senator we had was Zell Miller. Miller was the only Democrat they loved more than Bush. Many Republicans lamented that they couldn't vote for him again when he hung it up.

4. Can you think of anyone in the State who can beat him?

I can't. With the possible exception of the Governor, there isn't anyone who can.

10. Granted.

But as I explained, it's essentially a given. There aren't any Republicans that have the name recognition to beat him. They certainly won't have the funding. Democrats have an even worse problem. We just don't have the statewide name recognition. That means we'll have to spend half the time just introducing the candidate to the state. Then again, it's a who should we pick? Representative Hank Johnson? Every commercial about him from the Rethugs will be a replay of Congressman Johnson asking the dumbest question in history.

Now, I understand that Congressman Johnson was trying to get to the environmental issues of stationing more Marines on the island. But he asked it in the worst possible way. Everyone else is a name that most people in the state are going to get a confused look when mentioned. So that's the challenge to those of you who say we just need to paint the Rethugs as well, rethugs. It doesn't matter. Again, short of some scandal where they have video of Kingston with an underage girl, or boy, he is the next Senator from Georgia.

12. South GA candidates historically don't do so well in state wide election in GA.

But Kingston is competitive given the weak field.

13. I've said this before RE: southern Democrats and.......

haven't gotten much traction, but I'm going to say it again. Southern Dems who are likely going to lose need to change tactics. They need to brush off and update some Huey Long speeches. A genuine left populism would work better than warmed over Republican Lite. And if it doesn't work, what have you lost? An election that you were going to lose anyway?

Most of the Dems I've approached in Tennessee with this don't particularly go along with this, so I figure that the Dems in Georgia won't either, but as far as I'm concerned, if you're going to lose anyway why not try something different?
