US paints false picture of Afghan war: officer

US paints false picture of Afghan war: officer
(AFP) – 17 hours ago

WASHINGTON — A US Army officer has accused the American military of painting a misleading picture of progress in the war in Afghanistan while glossing over the Kabul government's many failings.

Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis deliberately broke ranks with the official portrayal of the war after spending a year in the country, issuing a grim assessment and accusing his superiors of covering up the harsh realities that plague the mission.

"What I saw bore no resemblance to rosy official statements by US military leaders about conditions on the ground," Davis wrote in an article published in Armed Forces Journal, a private newspaper not affiliated with the Pentagon.

"Instead, I witnessed the absence of success on virtually every level," he wrote under the headline, "Truth, Lies And Afghanistan: How military leaders have let us down." ..................(more)

*Was "The Surge" a "success"?

*Are The "Insurgents" On the Run?

*Is there a Light at the End of the Tunnel?

*WHAT do we really know?

Last night, I watched a documentary on IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) on the national Geographic Channel.
It seemed fairly objective, but what does anybody here really know?
I tend to doubt anything & everything I see on my TV these days about The WAR.

Anyway, this doc contained what appeared to be real interviews with Taliban "insurgents"
who were in the process of making and planting IEDs.
They were laughing and saying they were winning,
and no matter how long the US stays in their] country,
and no matter how much the US spends, they were going to WIN in the end.

You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their excuses.

I thought this was a much better detailing of the true situation there:

Apparently I missed the press reports which are painting a rosy picture.
