Fox's Andrea Tantaros On Plan B: "Is The Obama Daughter, Malia, Going To Go On Birth Control?"

Transcript:

TANTAROS: I mean look, if the president is going to talk about his daughters, typically I would not talk about the daughters, unless, of course, they go to the Bahamas on spring break and we have to pay for it and I think it's wrong, which I do. But they're not grown women. So I'm just wondering, at 15 years old, is the Obama daughter, Malia, going to go on birth control? Are they gonna put her on birth control? Because he's very concerned with contraceptives and pharmaceuticals that are going in the mouths of everybody else's 15-year old daughter.

But it's definitely collectivism, right? "It takes a village." Do you hear it, everybody? "It takes a village to raise your kids." President Obama is now the parent-in-chief. Kathleen Sebelius is raising your kids. Joe Biden is raising your kids. Oh not even, it doesn't stop there. It's not kids. They consider 15-year olds to be women. They want to tell grown women what to do. They know how grown women feel. They have no idea how women feel. They should stop talking about it, because they have no clue.

And you thought Rush Limbaugh was creepy enough in his 3-day tirade against Sandra Fluke! There's no low the right wing media hasn't conquered yet. Broadcast media in the daytime other than PBS and NPR is full of trash: on TV you can watch the perversions of Jerry Springer and Maury Povich shows. And on the local "News/talk" radio stations you get this kind of trash from people like Tantaros and Limbaugh. No wonder the mainstream political discourse became so damn toxic and ill informed.

This thread "DU---quit telling me what Alex Jones, Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin and other pond scum douchebags" got 100+ recs. Problem is that their opinions have become so much in the mainstream that they NEED a pushback. Tantaros's statement is just a glimpse into the gutter mindset of MANY people in this rotten country.

If Tantaros doesn't lose a single affiliate over this remark...it just shows how fucked up beyond belief our media and culture are. Mainstream American culture tolerates comments like Tantaros asking about Obama's daughter using birth control, Daniel Tosh joking about raping an audience member, all sorts of misogynistic behavior like "friendzoning"...my LORD! It's telling that even WOMEN like Tantaros embrace such shit beliefs.

What is it with Republicans and their obsession with other people's sexuality? Creepy... they all remind me of the rapist on an episode of the U.K. detective show 'Cracker,' who attacked people because he thought they were dirty.

We all print birth announcements, and right now, in the very Christian area I live in, no more than one in four babies are born to couples with the same last name. This has been going on for quite some time...my papers do high school athletes of the week and at least half the time we only print the mother's name.

Combine abstinence-only sex ed, no access to birth control and a town where beer, cigarettes, illegal drugs and casual sex are the only forms of entertainment, and you get teen pregnancies at unbelievable rates.

The thing right wingers fail to understand is, people don't say no to bad things if there are no good things to say yes to. And they get really pissed if you try coming up with good things...remember the uproar over midnight basketball in the Clinton 90s?

Chelsea went through a lot. Ugh. Rush should have been publicly paraded around nude in Times Square when he made fun of Chelsea's looks when she was a little kid. That would have cured him of EVER making fun of anybody else again. And now she's gorgeous and he's still not.

But this? This is exactly the same as saying black girls (even the President's daughters) don't have enough sense or the good morals not to get pregnant and that's why they're all welfare queens. Her implication is that if President Obama doesn't "put her on birth control" the American taxpayers will wind up paying for a bunch of babies like that Bahamas spring break trip.

Which WE didn't pay for by the way. But lying ass fuckheads like that don't give a shit about truth. I am going to blow a gasket pretty soon. I grew up in the South. It has changed a lot thank god. But that shit right there? That's after the racists had learned to temper their language just enough to get by in polite society. Those of us who heard the transition still know it for what it is.

I apologize for the rant. I just had to get that out. Whew!

I don't get this part of our society. We live in a world where Viagra use is advertised on TV 24 hours a day - and heavily during prime time. But ask about women's birth control and it's like the 800 pound elephant in the room.

My 12-year-old is on birth control, for what she calls "Periods from HELL". The insurance company uttered not a peep when her gynecologist sent her for an ultrasound. No holdups with getting her evaluated by a hematologist, either. But every time I pick up her pills, I have to physically show her insurance card (even though the pharmacy admits they've got the number on file) and her doctor has to authorize that the OCs aren't for contraception. I'm not talking about once at the beginning of each prescription, I mean every fucking month. The doctor's office has been great--they told me the magic authorization code--but I still have to call the pharmacy in advance to request the pills. I've had less hassle getting Vicodin refilled.

long before they started jacking up cattle with hormones and antibiotics. My mother-in-law was freaking over how quickly my daughter was getting tall (she's been waiting for the other kids to catch up for years) until I told her to chill; I'd reached my adult height by 6th grade.

I was arguing with a conservative about it recently, and he's made it clear he believes he owns his daughter until she's 18. Of course he calls it "protecting her."

I think a lot of these people like to use fear of pregnancy (and STDs) as a way to push abstinence. And they think that if you allow teenagers to have birth control and protection to STDs, that the fear is eliminated, and these teens will consider it a green light to go out and screw like rabbits.

That's my opinion anyway. I think that's how conservatives think. Remember that they consider sex before marriage as a sin. So if calling a sin doesn't scare people enough, they need to find other ways to scare people.

But many women are severely debilitated by anemia due to very harsh periods which hormonal treatment (aka birth control) relieves.

A man MUST have a damn erection, but a young woman that isn't even having sex can't get medical treatment because some idiot that MUST have an erection is afraid she's having sex.

He's probably afraid she's having sex with anyone but him, is the only conclusion I can come to.

The notion that emergency contraception will encourage teens to have risky or unprotected sex has been widely tested and found to be—and this is non-scientific nomenclature—bull. A 2007 Obstetrics & Gynecology literature review looked at eight randomized, controlled trials involving 6,400 patients and found that “advanced provision” allowed women to take the pill more quickly (by some 14 hours) but did not discourage the use of condoms or other contraceptives, nor did it cause an uptick in STIs. In other words, the patients treated Plan B like a backstop, not a cure-all. A 2002 study, conducted in inner-city Pittsburgh, found that teen awareness of emergency contraception was on the rise, but many girls remained confused about how and where to obtain the pill.

and

Several qualitative studies, including one in Social Science & Medicine, have found that few teens, young or old, rely on emergency contraception as their only form of birth control. More often than not, it’s a broken condom that sends a girl on a midnight trip to CVS. Sometimes, of course, the truth is even uglier: according to a 2010 report in the Journal of Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology, 13 percent of teens reported using Plan B because of “nonconsensual penetration.”

It certainly isn't mine. This trashy person needs to shut the fuck up, because even if she went on birth control, it might be for medical reasons, which right wing idiots seem to forget is necessary.

Lord. Hormonal treatment is for more than sex you dumbass, and it's none of your business what someone is taking for treatment. Would you like your need for Viagra or an enema spread all over the newspapers, jackwagon?

Not directed at the OP, just at someone stupid enough to opine this piece of garbage about a 15 year old girl whose medical issues are no one's fucking business but hers and her doctor's regardless of whose daughter she might be.
