South Carolina Congressional Election To Be Monitored By Justice Department

WASHINGTON, May 6 (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department will monitor voting in Charleston County, South Carolina, in Tuesday's special election to fill a House of Representatives seat, the department said on Monday.

Former South Carolina Republican Governor Mark Sanford is facing Democratic newcomer Elizabeth Colbert Busch, sister of television political satirist Stephen Colbert, in the First District House race.

The Justice Department said in a statement it was monitoring the election under provisions of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The law bars election discrimination on the basis of race, color or membership in a minority language group.

The department did not give a reason for the monitoring. Tuesday's vote will take place under South Carolina's new law mandating photo identification for voters, and Justice Department monitors observed primary elections. .............(more)

Because the religious folks in places like SC and Louisiana like to forgive their politicians for their trespasses. They are different from NY and most liberal states. It makes them feel more Christian-like that they are able to forgive others. Many will not hold anything against Sanford and he will win the race. I sincerely hope I am wrong. It would help to restore my faith in our political system.

to prevent all the shenanigans that could occur. They'd be better off hiring some scoundrels who know the ropes and who don't have a dawg in his fight. They would know where to look.

Jim DeMint, Lindsey Graham, and the fucker who started all this: Lee Atwater, ah South Carolina, my home state. If I moved to Somalia, I probably would find much more democracy and less guns. We have had some great progressives such as Jim Clyburn, Dick Riley but there are very few . Between the sweet smell of magnolia blossoms, is the stench of red neck teabaggers who still believe we are fighting the civil war. My state has never evolved and at this point, I doubt it ever will. Mark Sanford will win the congressional seat because of ignorance, and hatred of women and the so called Christians will forgive him for: lying to the state, stealing tax payers money, cheating on his wife. And these are the same goat fuckers who wanted to impeach Clinton. I'm going to stay away from any local media reports tomorrow, my head will probably explode at seeing Sanford's victory smirk.
