http://www.khou.com/news/crime/Police-Mom-of-teen-shot-by-friend-turns-to-Web-MD-instead-of-hospital-for-help-206610471.htmlHOUSTON A mother could face charges after she allegedly turned to WebMD.com, instead of seeking professional medical attention, when her 14-year-old son was shot by a friend playing with a gun, Santa Fe police said.
(snip)
Pete Jesse Rodriguez, 24, who is also a resident of the home, pointed a pistol directly at the teen, police said. Rodriguez is accused of tracking the teens movement with the pistol and eventually pulling the trigger. The victim was shot once in the upper left thigh with a high-caliber bullet, police said.
The teen lay on the floor for several minutes before getting up. Police said the teen and his mother initially looked up gunshots on WebMD.com. Then, seven hours later, the teens mother drove him to Mainland Center hospital, police said.
After initial treatment at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City, the victim was transported to Hermann Hospital in Houston where he remained Wednesday in stable condition.
So much stupidity in one story...

(18,868 posts)Too absurd for words.
And the really sad thing is there are people out there that are dumb enough to try and take care of it themselves by watching a video on Youtube.

I might, if I were the local authorities, attempt to procure a search warrant to ferret out the meth lab that this situation just screams....

(13,770 posts)I had a friend who cut herself quite deeply yesterday.when she was slicing some ham. According to what she told me, it sounded like it was deep enough to requirestitches at least. (She said she cut it to the bone) She's not going to go get it looked at because she cant afford copays.

(16,350 posts)I had a SIL who didn't go to the doctor even though she was sick for a long time. Passed away way too young. She didn't want to burden her husband by having him hit up with massive bills. He eventually got the state's Charity Care to pay her hospital expenses. Oh, and he LOVES Rush L! Ugh!

A week later he died in the ER from a condition that would have been prevented had he received proper treatment in time
Health care in this nation is a disgrace and it breaks my heart

(12,799 posts)How terribly sad. And still, mandatory insurance won't fix our healthcare ills. Until we ignore the name-callers ( call me communist if you must) and enact universal, single-payer coverage, this is our lot. Co-pays and deductibles are exorbitant even if you can afford premiums.
