Oreck Vacuums Files for Chapter 11
NASHVILLE (CN) - Vacuum cleaner-maker Oreck filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy but plans to keep operating while it seeks a buyer.
Oreck and seven affiliates filed for bankruptcy declaring, in general, $10 million to $50 million in assets and liabilities.
Oreck laid off workers in October 2012 and again in January. It has about 600 employees remaining, including 250 in its manufacturing plant, 325 in retail stores and 70 at its corporate headquarters in Nashville, according to the Christian Science Monitor.

(25,258 posts)That would be ashamed if they went out of business. I've got a really bad back and it is the one vac that works well for me.

(18,541 posts)I totally agree with you, but what does it serve us when they're more interested in making lots of money of a little work and expense, as opposed to making the same money from hiring a ton of people and providing products at prices that will keep them in business?
Greed.

(16,334 posts)and their bag prices were expensive. I think companies like Dyson took a bite out of business and from what I've heard, other vacuums like Hoovers and such have improved to the point it was not worth it to pay the high price of an Oreck.

(31,464 posts)They're flimsy plastic crap that sells for $500. It felt like a child's toy vacuum. Maybe it performs well, I wouldn't know, because I would never spend that much money on such a cheesy piece of crap.

(24,461 posts)I got one because my upstairs bedroom, being dark and me not being able to afford to drywall it, was dusty. Sorry, didn't really notice much of a difference and it's a giant $300 pain in the ass to clean.
