Atlanta the most 'redneck' city in America?

BY LISA GUTIERREZ
The Kansas City Star

We’re trying not to take this personally.

But frankly, we feel like kickin’ somebody with our pointy-toed cowboy boots because real estate web site Movoto has issued a list of the Most Redneck cities in America.

Atlanta, Georgia claims the No. 1 spot.

Kansas City - the one in Missouri, not Kansas - ranks No. 2.

Rounding out the Top 10 Most Redneck Cities in America: Oklahoma City (No. 3); Nashville; Tulsa; Fort Worth; Arlington, Texas; Sacramento, Cleveland and Mesa, Arizona.

Named the least rednecky city in America: New York.

Wow. Surprise.

The suburbs and exurbs are pretty redneck though. I think by "Atlanta" they just mean "GA" Erose999 May 2013 #15
Exactly. Atlanta and GA (outside of suburbs) are not the same at all. n/t Dawgs May 2013 #17

While there's no great love lost between myself and Cleveland, I'm curious as to how it landed in the Top 10.

..often with a rural and/or Southern background.

People like that may not be persecuted necessarily, but how can anybody claim with a straight face that most "rednecks" are anywhere near the most powerful group in America?

Cleveland proper has lots of diverse culture, food, music and things to do. I wish it's transportation system were better, but that's a nitpick. I would hardly call us "redneck". That would be Brunswick, Mentor, Aurora and Chardon.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgia's_5th_congressional_district

Georgia's 5th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of Georgia. The district is currently represented by Democrat John Lewis, though the district's boundaries have been redrawn following the 2010 census, which granted an additional congressional seat to Georgia.[3] The first election using the new district boundaries (listed below) were the 2012 congressional elections.

Based in central Fulton and parts of Dekalb and Clayton counties, the majority African American district includes almost three-fourths of Atlanta, the state capital and largest city. It also includes some of the surrounding suburbs, including East Point, Druid Hills, and Forest Park.

Surprised that there aren't more southern cities on the list, although
MO really is part of the South.

Just because it's in the South doesn't mean it's redneck.

I live in Arlington and work in Ft. Worth. There are some sane pockets in South Arlington but it is also the home of Rep. Barton (jerk) who is a loudmouth redneck.

Dallas and Austin are especially progressive.

I expected a redneck city, but found it was a very cosmopolitan area. I live just northwest of Atlanta and have yet to meet very many rednecks.
