The latest horrifying data on European unemployment

The two European countries worst hit by the region’s economic crisis—Greece and Portugal—both reported their latest unemployment data today.

Warning: It’s just awful.

Greek unemployment rose from 26.7% to 27.0% in February. Portuguese unemployment shot up to 17.7% from 16.9% in the first quarter.

It’s even worse for the young people. 64.2% of young Greeks between the age of 15 and 24 are unemployed. In Portugal, 42.1% of young people were out of work.

Especially when you take in those who have despaired and aren't looking, the unemployment rate among African Americans, and those who are seriously underemployed.

The europeans don't hide it as well.

and Ireland is almost as bad.

Cyprus is joining the field, now that the bank theft has flattened many businesses.

According to Eurostat, Cyprus recorded the second highest unemployment increase in the EU in March
during which the jobless rate increased in 19 EU countries and fell only in eight.

Compared to March 2012, the highest increase in March this year were recorded in
Greece 27.2 per cent, up from 21.5 per cent in the same month last year.
In Cyprus, the figure jumped from 10.7 per cent in March 2012 to 14.2 per cent in March this year.
