BTW, I got all the answers correct!!!
It's really not that hard for us news junkies.
But you can forward this to your regressive (what I call conservatives) friends.

(62,444 posts)One can be very well informed, and not know or care what, for example, Elizabeth Warren or Eric Holder look like.
I found that aspect of the quiz to be kind of shallow (although I certainly did recognize everyone's picture). Knowing what, say, John Kerry looks like is tangential to being "informed".

laundry_queen
(8,646 posts)I thought Washington had legalized same sex marriage WAYYY before 2012. I was really depressed to find it out was ONLY in 2012 it was legalized. Talk about late to the party for a more progressive state.

(53,661 posts)There'd been all that teabagger and CT propaganda about how churches would be punished for not performing vows. Also there were provisions due to age of the married couples being an issue for some who would get lower SS benefits as couples. Also that civil unions, which were already part of the state law, would in time be recognized as marriage and those people would not have to payagain. Those were the changes that made it a winner.
I wouldn't say WA was lacking as a progressive state, but we have been targeted by the GOP most viciously since we have to elect Democratic governors for years. There were a number of outrageous stunts committed by Bush to punish WA when he got into office. Since the baggers got going in 2010, they have been more intense and the dirty tricks have multiplied on all levels.
A big amount of unaccountable money from out of state is being used to defeat Democrats and our initiatives the media has been bought out by the right. The Libertarians fight against all the progressive things, most of I've met are disaffected Paulbots. They're quite aggressive. We are going to have some problems.
laundry_queen
(8,646 posts)I'm Canadian and I didn't know as much as I thought I did about Washington - even though I've been there (and found it very progressive at the time). I guess it being the 2nd or 3rd go round is why I thought they had been through it before 2012.
It's horrible that your state is been targeted by the GOP. Sounds like most states have an uphill battle. Isn't it weird how the GOP targets blue states, but the Dems ignore red states. Geez. Dems gotta get their poop in a group regarding that.

(53,661 posts)The huge money, billionaire and millionaie donors, who have become solely corporatists, and will not give us the funding they do the right. They have decided that stealing from the taxpayers is the last thing they can get from us and be wealthy. A generation of people have grown up in a different media environment than many Democrats. We are the inclusive party that goes to bat for women, minorities, etc. but the other side has many sold on their Libertarian version of rights - mainly the right to not pay taxes and not follow any laws that get in the way of profit. Despite claims to the contrary, both parties are not the same, are not getting the same funds. We are known by our enemies, and they know just how to get past us. I think we have only one message to sell, and we have no media voice to sell it with. The amount of money we are going up against and the propaganda it pays for is staggering on the mainstream level. We are forced to go person to person, and that is what won 2012. The right has promised a Tea Party Two to defeat us in 2014 and they have the ear of the media. We are in a tough place.
dsc
(52,152 posts)there was a law passed that would have legalized it, but in WA the people can veto a law so it was put on hold as signatures were gathered, then certified, and the election was held. It was after that election (in 2012) that the law was finally permitted to go into effect. The first marriages were on 6 Dec, or 30 days later, I know because my birth day is 6 Dec.

(53,661 posts)Can't say whether that is good or not as a whole. It would depend on whether the 92% followed the news and didn't learn those easy things, or simply had tuned out on politics altogether. If a large part of those were watching the news and didn't know those factoids, they are not getting much out of their time.
