Sunday Talk Shows

Meet the Press
New testimony this week from government whistleblowers in the September 11th Benghazi attack reignited debate on the issue. Was there a failure of leadership? Could more have been done to save American lives? We’ll talk exclusively with House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa and Senate Intelligence Chair Dianne Feinstein

Was there a Political Cover Up?
Amb. Thomas Pickering the man who led the State Department’s investigation of the Benghazi attack, joins us to respond.

What is the political fallout from the Benghazi attack? How will the increased scrutiny and criticism of Hillary Clinton’s tenure at the State Department affect her chances in 2016? Plus: the debate over immigration, the economy, and an issue that got a lot of attention this week: how to stem the alarming number of sexual assaults in the military. We’ll have insights and analysis from Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) who is a veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan; New York Times columnist David Brooks the BBC’s Katty Kay and Afghanistan veteran and author Wes Moore

The debate over Benghazi was reignited this week, as new testimony and newly-revealed emails brought fresh scrutiny to the Sept. 11, 2012 attack. Was enough done to save American lives in the attack? Did political considerations influence the Obama administration’s response in the immediate aftermath – and how has politics shaped Republican calls for more information?

Plus, what steps should the U.S. take in Syria? How should Washington tackle the dramatic increase in sexual assault in the military? And will the battle for immigration reform move forward? Sen. John McCain and Sen. Jack Reed weigh in Sunday, only on “This Week.”

Then, the”This Week” foreign policy roundtable examines the fallout over Benghazi and Syria, with ABC News’ George Will , former Joint Chiefs of Staff Vice Chair Gen. James Cartwright (USMC, Ret.) But we also have a special treat: it is Mother's Day and I am going to be talking to Maya Angelou. She had the most remarkable life: people know her as a poet, writer and performer but she has this amazing story of the relationship between she and her mother. It will really be something to hear. Expert voices include former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, former CIA and NSA Director Michael Hayden, and former CIA Counter-terrorism chief Robert Grenier

“It's very easy, when you get out on that slippery slope, to say…well here we are, we shouldn't just be focusing only on the international terrorists,” Grenier says. “What about the people who are supporting them? But when we take the next step and we start attacking them as an affiliated group, as though they were international terrorists themselves, we’re inviting a lot of trouble.”
