A Woman Was Kicked Off A Plane For Belting Out Whitney Houston's 'I Will Always Love You'

An American Airlines flight from Los Angeles to New York's JFK Airport was forced to make an emergency landing in Kansas City after a woman refused to stop singing Whitney Houston's famous ballad "I will always love you."

A video taken by another passenger on the flight shows police escorting the woman off the flight while she continues to sing out loud and off-key.

The man who took the video said that the woman was "screaming and singing" for an hour, according to KMBC.com.

"The woman was being disruptive and was removed from the plane for interfering with the flight crew," airport spokesman Joe McBride told KCTV. "There was a federal air marshal on the aircraft, who subdued the woman and put her in cuffs and removed her from the plane."

Atlanta to LAX on a 767 last week.
I was stuck on the middle seat of the middle section. The seat did not recline. The little screen on the back of the seat in front of me was about 20 inches from my face and once in a while a commercial came on which I could not turn off. After about 4 hours of trying to sleep sitting up I was really tired and stiff.
Maybe this woman felt the same as me.

an earworm that would be worse; I think I'd want to hurl myself out of a plane's window to get away from it. Although I do agree that Dolly Parton's original version is ten thousand times better and easier to hear than Whitney's. I never understood all the fuss over Whitney, a horrendously overrated, overhyped "talent", who wasted the talent she DID have with drugs and bad choices.

and IMO did it better.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Will_Always_Love_You
"I Will Always Love You" is a song by American singer-songwriter Dolly Parton. The country track was released on June 6, 1974 as the second single from Parton's thirteenth solo studio album, Jolene (1974). Recorded on June 13, 1973, the singer wrote the song for her one-time partner and mentor Porter Wagoner, from whom she was professionally splitting at the time. "

&feature=youtube_gdata_player

I am not a country music fan at all. Most of it I hate. But her voice is just so clear. She has a bit of the mountain music in her. Anyone who's ever heard Jean Ritchie sing knows what that is. Or if you've seen the movie Matewan you've heard it.

I have no doubt Whitney Houston was touched by that sound, too.

Gene said "Ok, how high do you think this plane is flying?". Roger replied "Well, it's around 35,000 feet, that's about seven miles high.". Gene thought for a few seconds, and replied "Seven miles high, huh. That doesn't sound quite right." So, ...

There is a little controversy about McGuinn's telling, but it makes a good story.

Whether I asked for it or not or like it or not is irrelevant compared to the possibility that such behavior might interfere with the operation of a giant hurtling ball of death.

The "giant hurtling ball of death" part turns out to be the most important part of that situation.

I point this out because there was an old woman who did just that on public transportation a few months back. And I got jumped on by people here for admitting I would not like it if I had been subjected to the uninvited singing.

So I think I understand how this works. If we belt out Whitney Houston songs and we are not a senior citizen, this is wrong by DU standards. But if we are in our 80's and sing gospel, it is considered adorable and inoffensive and I am a whack-a-doodle crank for thinking otherwise.

It is so hard to keep track of what is socially acceptable since I do not know the exact age or song book that makes that behavior OK.
