1. When I hear stories like this, all I can think is how happy it must make the overlords in the 1%.

As long as we are fighting and scrapping amongst ourselves, attention is taken off of them.

Certainly they'd rather have us sedated rather than punching each other over too many pickles? Or, to put it another way, assuming you believe capitalism is a nefarious scheme, isn't it more efficient to give us just enough to distract us from the fact that they have almost all of it?

If we don't have enough we blame each other, hate each other and work against each other.

Not them.

It is in their best interests to make sure we never have enough but are stupid enough to believe one day we will.

Of course those who actually have enough don't think they do. Thanks to the programming we are subjected to from birth that this new thing will make life better, these new, very expensive clothes will grant us happiness, it is easy for those with enough to be convinced they are going without.
