Father Stripping Gun Shoots 1-Year-Old In Chest

http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/1-year-old-tennessee-girl-in-critical-condition?ref=fpb

A man was field stripping two handguns in Tullahoma, Tenn. when one discharged, shooting his 1-year-old daughter in the chest, The Tennessean reported.

Kevin Sayre, 26, was "showing how parts of one gun were interchangeable with the other one" in the presence of the child. Police said Sayre was acting recklessly. He was charged with aggravated assault.

The child was listed in critical condition Tuesday, according to the Tennessean.

It's a shame the child didn't exercise basic gun safety. She should have been more cautious. kestrel91316 May 2013 #8

Can you imagine the charges. We KNOW he would be doing jail time big time. But this, not so much. Oops, I didn't know it was loaded. That baby would have been safer if her father was loaded. (without the gun)

Anytime time I pick up a gun, even if I knows it is empty, I check the chamber and pop the mag just to be sure. This is basic gun safety and people should know better than this.

Gun humpers think they're god and will never, ever make a mistake.

Until they do.

"field dress a gun"? He said to tear it down and clean it. Then I asked..."Isn't it supposed to be unloaded first?" He said "YES! Of course. WHY?" I told him the story and his comment was that re are some real AHs in Tenn. I disagree with him tying it down to a state, but it really IS TRUE that there are a lot of AHs out there and unfortunately most of them seem to be in the US.

I hope his wife divorces him and she gets full custody of the child.
