(3,557 posts)When I got back from Iraq and I had a whole lot of money burning a hole in my pocket, I spent two years doing a frame-off restoration on my '79.

'79 isn't at all a collectible year and it is noted for its weak L-48 (185 hp) and L-82 (225 hp) engines, but I fixed that. In the above picture, I just got my 465 hp, 450 tq 383 and I'm getting ready to mate it up with the transmission.

Sadly, I needed the money and I sold it about 2 years ago. I had a lot of fun doing a full restoration, but I don't see myself doing that again. It was a tremendous amount of work.

Man o man I'm so glad you are back from that hell hole and are healing.
Oh and that is a beauty too. Something to be very proud of.
Welcome to DU Victor
I'll have to comment on what you said there at the last. You do good work, outstanding actually and it would be a disservice to yourself to not do it again when you feel like it. It could be a very worthy vocation for someone with your talents as there is definitely good money in it. The satisfaction of a job well done is awesome.
Peace

(8,142 posts)I hear ya about being anemic. I was doing a restomod on a 76 FJ40 Landcruiser at the time and couldn't afford both so I got rid of the corvette but I still love that body style. Now I've got an LS powered Trans Am for my hot rod.
What a beautiful collection! Thanks, madokie!
Kick!

(58,237 posts)but I totally swoon at 50s-60s American cars. There's a guy (Paolo) in our little Italian-speaking village who has (gorgeously) restored a couple of US-made muscle cars. I'll try to get photos this summer to share with you.
Thanks for everything you bring to DU, madokie (including, of course, the Morford columns)!
