I don't remember McCarthy, I was a young kid then but I remember my Father talking about him. I think it's his mannerisms.

My parents had the first TV in the neighborhood so my mother could watch those hearings, white knuckled and furious. She'd had a brief flirtation with the CPUSA when they were the only ones standing up to Hitler, left when she realized Stalin was just as nuts.

I remember him, all right, and I remember the fear among adults who knew any neighbor with a grudge could turn them in and wreck their lives because of that little bastard.

And yes, Cruz is just like him. Fortunately for us, Cruz is not making friends the way McCarthy was able to. Other members of his party are learning to hate his guts.

Cruz is the same variety of bully boy as Joe McCarthy was. Let's hope he never learns that he needs to woo allies, not trample over people in his own party to get to ours.
