In response to the ongoing hearings into the attack on our consulate in Benghazi, Libya, on Sept. 11th, 2012, which have been pointless and a drain on valuable time and public resources, and in light of the fact that 64 U.S. consulates and embassies were attacked during the Bush years, in which 52 Americans were killed, without a word from Republican lawmakers, and in light of the fact that Republicans cut a White House request for embassy security funding by $128 million prior to the Benghazi attack resulting in the death of 4 Americans, including the U.S. Ambassador to Libya, I have drafted this petition to request that the White House begin impeachment proceedings on the Republican leaders of this partisan witch hunt: Senators Rand Paul and Ted Cruz, and House Rep. Darrel Issa.

(234 posts)This is a little more like what needs to happen. If some of these numbskulls actually were held accountable, they wouldn't be able to behave like the ignorant, unmannered assholes they are.

Main article: Impeachment in the United States
The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other High crimes and Misdemeanors.
The Constitution also allows for involuntary removal from office. The President, Vice-President, Cabinet Secretaries, and other executive officers, as well as judges, may be impeached by the House of Representatives and tried in the Senate.
Any official convicted by impeachment is immediately removed from office. The Senate may also choose to bar the removed official from holding any federal office in the future.[21] No other punishments may be inflicted pursuant to the impeachment proceeding, but the convicted party remains liable to trial and punishment in the courts for civil and criminal charges.[22]
Impeachment starts in the House and is tried in the Senate. The executive can't do that any more than they can start building a deathstar.

(4,713 posts)That senators are not considered civil officers. Therefore I think that is what they consider elections for, but with the way the system is rigged now something has got to give .Every last one of the is required to follow the U.S.C. &there has to be some violations for false allegations, misappropriation of funds, & lieing.

(11,619 posts)and where it is tried.
Certainly, if you have a Senator or Congressman commit a crime in the jurisdiction of a city, county, or federal bureau, they can be investigated and indicted. But just the normal malfeasance at work in the elected offices isn't a crime.
