From Chris Hayes at MSNBC-Obama to deliver speech on drones, Gitmo

From Chris Hayes at MSNBC:

All right, this week, a scoop, a new bit of information that caught my eye in Newsweek by reporter Daniel Cladman that suggest the White House is about to do something it has resisted for years. The President is now about to deliver a speech, probably three weeks, on drones, Guantanamo , the national agenda and legal foundation for the continued global war on terror. He writes, "In coming days, Obama plans to lay out a legal framework for the administration's evolving strategies on targeting, detention and prosecution. The delicate process of putting together such a major Presidential statement has apparently taken months and involved arduous wrangling. There is also increased domestic pressure on the President to close Guantanamo, where it has now been 100 days since 102 prisoners held there launched a hunger strike. Today, protesters demanding closure of Guantanamo submitted a petition to the White House, a former military prosecutor at Guantanamo and the person who started an on-line petition on-line.

Is there anything he could say that would disappoint you?

As for me, there are many things he could say that would please me and many that would disappoint me.

I am curious if you could also list things that would disappoint you as well as things that would please you.

at that Hearing with Pentagon Brass yesterday...I worry about what legal justifications POB will be making. He's continued and expanded Bush/Cheney's War, surveillance and is prosecuting whistle blowers. He supports Drone Targeting and intervention in areas of the world that we have no business being in except that he seems to accept that "Terrorism" is a war where the US can intervene anywhere the Military/CIA thinks someone is suspect.

Since he's already done things we would like to see Bush & Cheney prosecuted for...what could he say that wouldn't make some of us uncomfortable.

It's up to Congress to take back it's powers to Declare War. Barbara Lee says she has a Bill and that Congress is going to have hearings. What if Democrats in Congress accept POB's reasoning for Blank Check to be The Decider and we end up with Endless War. Our Constitution is changed and we have an Imperial President. It's very worrisome to this Democrat. But, I imagine many other Democrats will feel that it's a good thing.
