I always find it interesting that such paternalistic, abusive cult groups could come out of such a progressive era.

1. This was a typical 60s cult

Charismatic leader at the center, claiming all young women for himself, everybody works at the cult's business and has no private property, the leader owning and controlling everything.

I have to say that this one seems a little more benign than most of the others I ran into back then. Instead of turning it into a death cult when his own body started to fail, he simply sold the business and moved them all to Hawaii.

In any case, Father Yod went out with a real bang and stayed dead.

I met some of his followers when I was a kid, before and after his cartoon like demise...

I had the joyous task of working on his case when I worked at ssa. Reading that file was a real hoot!
