A southeast Nebraska police department found itself in the unusual position of victim last week after burglars stole several boxes of ammunition, bulletproof vests and other essential equipment.

Saline County Sheriff Alan Moore said a 20-year-old Strang, Neb., man and two juvenile males were arrested Thursday in connection with the break-in of the Friend Police Department. The adult, Douglas W. Udell, was jailed on a burglary charge.

“There are serious concerns when a police department is broken into and that type of equipment is taken,” Moore said. “I am very happy with the effort that was put into this case ... and more importantly getting that type of equipment out of the hands of criminals.”

The Friend Police Department is in a former tool shed that has been called the “world’s smallest police station.” The burglary occurred in the early-morning hours when the station was not occupied.

THAT would be a more fitting story - Stranger man steals ammo and combat gear from Friend police department!

But really though if they weren't caught sooner sh*t could've happened.
