My company offers people a bonus to not take our health insurance. It's an encouragement for them to take their spouse's insurance instead.

during salary negotiations because I'm on Mr. Brickbat's insurance. I was told that that's not exactly how it works, but they agreed to it anyway.

I was covered elsewhere, so did not need coverage from my employer of 15 years or so - a large corporation.

But that incentive was really minor - less than $10 per month.

We will pay you 25% of the cost of the annual premium of whatever plan you would have taken (family, single, etc.) if you opt-out, with proof of other coverage. Once-a-year check (a paycheck; opt-out $$ is taxable.)

My husband's company needed proof of other coverage from mine. I never did check if he received a benefit from that.

Thanks.
