(05-28) 17:43 PDT OAKLAND -- A banker who serves as president of a merchant association in Oakland's upscale Montclair District has been charged with bilking at least seven clients out of $1.4 million.
Linda Foss, 62, who is on leave as head of the Montclair Village Association, stole money from clients - many of whom are elderly - while serving as branch manager at U.S. Bank on Mountain Boulevard, according to Alameda County prosecutors.
After she was fired from the bank, she became branch manager at a First Republic Bank, where she stole money in an attempt to conceal earlier thefts, authorities said.
Foss was arrested May 10 and charged several days later with 20 felony counts including grand theft, elder theft, misapplication of bank funds and money laundering. She remained at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin on Tuesday in lieu of $1.6 million bail.
