Dirty lettuce photo gets 3 Burger King workers fired

CBS/AP) MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio - Burger King says three workers were fired after a photo posted online appeared to show an employee stepping on lettuce in bins at a northwest Ohio restaurant.

The company says it won't tolerate such violations of its strict procedures for safely handling food.

It didn't comment on the circumstances in which the photo was taken. News outlets say the picture was posted on the free-for-all website 4chan.org, and GPS data embedded in the photo led to the restaurant.

A screenshot obtained by CBS Cleveland affiliate WOIO shows how the computer-savvy sleuths -- who call themselves "anons," tracked down the restaurant's location.

...nasty stuff to the food at other types of restaurants? I wouldn't count on that.

I had no idea.

The pic, btw, looks like he is standing on the lid of the containers, not directly on the lettuce, FWIW.

...I would imagine standing on lettuce would actually depress the lettuce. That doesn't appear to be happening.

We're talking about lettuce, here.

Anyway, most interesting is being able to track the location down from the photo. Very interesting, IMO.

attach GPS to images these days. I happen to own two cameras that don't have that ability, which is good for me given what I tend to photograph (abandoned buildings). However, if I upload from my smartphone, I make sure the GPS data isn't attached before doing so.

You can remove EXIF data in programs like photoshop if you want. It's also known as metadata in some programs.

They can have their celebrity panel of judges and some kind of contest or lottery to determine which lucky citizen will receive the honor of throwing the switch. Maybe an audience participation segment where they can vote for the method (just text 14468 for decapitation, 23618 for flaying, or 57983 for boiling. Only $5 for each vote cast).

We're so screwed...

but yes, they deserved to be fired, and they should never work in food preparation again.
