A legendary South Beach drag queen was gunned down at a friend's front door Tuesday night in Tampa.

Wanda, whose real name was Anthony Jerome Lee, was cooking dinner at the home on East Genesee Street when someone knocked at the front door, police told the Tampa Bay Times. When she answered the knock, Wanda was shot five times.

No suspects have been named, and investigators told Fox 13 News they believe the gunman was likely targeting someone else.

Friends and fellow performers are now mourning Wanda, a Tampa-born towering and controversial figure in Miami Beach clubland who frequently performed at Amnesia's Sunday night gay party sporting balloon boobs, an attitude, and a fierce devotion to Whitney Houston's greatest hits.

2. I knew a guy years ago who called himself Wanda

and worked as a female secretary in the next town, so I really had to look at this one. Not the same, "my" Wanda would be near retirement age and probably a postop transsexual by now, since I think that's where she was headed 40 years ago. Once she'd landed her job, I never saw her in bloke mode again.

This is really sad, a good guy shot by lowlife either hating what he did for a living or thinking he was somebody who owed them drug money.

That's so sad. I remember seeing her at Amnesia for tea on Sundays and on holidays. That was during my misspent (maybe it was well-spent) youth. Too much partying back then. It's a wonder I survived

Boy you never wanted to cross one of those drag queens in South Beach. They could be down right nasty.
