So....A Louisiana teacher says to me that his health ins has gone way up because of "Obamacare"

He tells me that in two decades, this is the only time that his health ins. has gone up much, and he's been informed that it's because of Obamacare.

Anyone have any information on this? I've tried looking this up but haven't found much.

You're right. So far, I've found that there was a 7% reduction in 2012, & another 1.7% reduction in Honeycombe8 May 2013 #7

"Obamacare" is a mighty convenient excuse.

Tell him to show you the math. He probably doesn't have it.

I pointed out that whoever told him that didn't cite a provision or anything, right? That was right.

He just says, "well, that's what I've been told."

Teachers are union in La., and they get funds from the state. That state is going after public education, wanting to privatize it, it seems to me. And of course, that Republican governor (Bobby Jindal) is anti-union. I can't help but think that has something to do with it.

there. So how could what he says be true? Did you make him give you numbers? Make them be specific.

So far, that's all he says. He's a smart guy, but I pointed out, well if someone blames something, esp if it's a political football, yet they don't say HOW it caused this or that, or they don't cite a provision, a red flag should go up, no matter WHO says it.

He responds that well, both sides say things that are partisan, and then there's that IRS thing and the AP thing.

I respond...well, that has nothing to do with insurance, which is what we're discussing.

So far, I find nothing on the internet to indicate that La teachers' ins premiums have gone up at all. I'm wondering if it's just HIS premium that went up.
