When I get asked questions about "white people" hair, skin, whatever, it's never in a rude way though; these encounters are always sort of fun lotion-and-conditioner-tip swap fests.

One time, an anthropologist refused to believe I wasn't indigenous...sigh.

He is half German Jewish and half Korean, which has given him a tawny-skinned, dark-haired look that I called "generically ethnic": he said he's been mistaken for a local in Turkey, Greece and Mexico. But the Spanish thing really bugs him. He does not speak Spanish, and it happens a LOT. He's started answering them in his broken Korean. He tells me their facial expressions are priceless.

A friend of mine in school once had to sit through a prof go on and on to her about how much he loved the Philippines and how her people, Filipinos, were the best workers. My friend is a Muslim from Saudi Arabia.
