(22,871 posts)We wore caps and gowns that our mom's made us and I sang "Bicycle built for two" as a duet with a cute little boy.

(38,613 posts)It was a southern Baptist private school though. I'm not sure if the public schools had them then.

(23,864 posts)Somewhere I have a picture of me in my little cap and gown. There's a picture from forty years or so before that of my mother as a little girl also in her cap and gown in the same spot.

We "passed" grades when I went to school,Graduation happened after you successfully passed 12.

(5,937 posts)and same as you, there was 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners and that was it in my school events and never wore a cap and gown until I graduated from HS in 1991. I think the "everyone gets a prize" movement has not yielded the best results either IMO.

(100,054 posts)We just had end of the year parties. But that was enough for me, formal graduation ceremonies in kindergarten is way over the top. Grade school should be like the NBA finals - no one gets to pop the champagne until the final minute of the final game.

(8,377 posts)It is very likely the truth. Three could definitely be some 18-year-olds with kids in kindergarten, and it isn't hard to imagine them being the ones getting into fights..
Regarding a graduation ceremony. This is just wrong. What is next, the Kindergarten prom?
Actually I'm way too late for that.
