Officer Jason Ellis was ambushed Saturday while trying to help motorists.

Officer Jason Ellis was ambushed Saturday while trying to help motorists. He was set up to move some debris off of an exit ramp which posed a traffic hazard and shot multiple times with a shotgun. He was the K-9 handler for the Bardstown PD... in Bardstown, KY...here is his partner, K-9 Figo paying one last tribute. Forever loyal. Forever faithful.

RIP Officer Ellis. Our hearts go out to his family, friends, co-workers, and K-9 partner. The city of Bardstown is allowing the young dog to retire and remain with the family he knows and loves. K-9 Figo will keep watch over Ellis' widow, Amy, and his two sons, ages 6 and 7....just the way that Officer Jason Ellis would have wanted him to.See More

The reward fund for information leading to the capture of the murderer is over $100,000.

And that picture is heartbreaking.

Kick and Rec!
Especially after all the cop hate that has been posted here recently.

The best and the bravest are the ones who buy it. Witness the case of Officer Scott Briggs in Manchester, NH - The homeless held their own service for "Officer Bigmon", the ex-Marine bicycle cop who looked out for them. Killed by a piece of street trash, and used as a campaign banner by Sen. Ayotte.

Because, like you, I wonder if it was a set-up.

I find it horrifying that he was set up via a good samaritan act (moving debris from the road) and hope whoever did it gets thrown in prison for life.

Sad that this tragedy is his children's first experience, and at such a tender age, with the madness of this society.

Hunger and sex drive and some other BS drivel. I'm sure they just trained that dog to do that.

Reminds me of the firemen getting shot and the others taken hostage. Working in public is now dangerous.

There aren't that many law enforcement officers killed each year, approx. 150 is the number that comes to mind, but it's particularly hard to bear when one is gunned down simply because of the uniform.
My guess is that the murderer did not know who he/she was shooting.
