4 Killed in Houston 5-Alarm Fire: KPRC
Four people have died and five Houston firefighters have been injured while battling a massive hotel fire on the city's southwest side Friday afternoon, KPRC reports.
At about 4 p.m., KPRC published a tweet that said three of the dead were firefighters, though that tweet was later deleted. A short time later, a public official would only confirm that four people had been killed in the fire, though she wouldn't say if they were firefighters or civilians.
The 5-alarm fire broke out inside the restaurant at the Southwest Inn on the 6800 block of Southwest Freeway at about noon.
Flames could be seen shooting through the roof and sending plumes of smoke over the freeway, obstructing the vision of nearby drivers.
