the distinction might be relevant for your teeth, but not so much for the rest of your body.

Which is why a diet of Cheetos and Dr. Pepper is equally as nutritious as that of broccoli and whole grains.

if you cook bacon so that it is really good and crumbly and sprinkle just a little bit on top of homemade caramels...OH. MY. GOD.

Like I said, might sound nasty, but tastes out of this world!

Brown sugar coat, then cook as normal. Drain on a rack (not paper towel, it sticks).

Pretty much death on a stick good.

Glucose can be used by every cell in the body directly. Fructose and alcohols require liver metabolism. They are not the same.

but the op didn't make that distinction. you are getting sugar from carbs.

portion control is also an important part of a diet, so simply limiting your sugars has a great impact on health and diet, perhaps more so than quibbling about the form of the sugars.

so if the focus is on quantity of sugars, which the op appeared to me to focus on, then my point stands.

And the fructose is metabolized differently than glucose, since it requires more work in the liver. On the other hand, the fructose does not cause an insulin response.

really good for you and that your body REQUIRES it for normal function. Then they are going to roll their eyes and act like all sugars are created equal, like the poster in the first reply. As if grains converted to glucose are no different from straight refined sugar. Because these people DO NOT like to be told about healthy food.

Good luck with your thread.

It's the weirdest thing I have ever seen. And it seems particular to health related threads. The same people that can pull facts and citations and the most elegantly contrived arguments out of thin air on a wide variety of social, political and economic subjects turn into R*********s when it comes to food.

I honestly don't care what people eat, but I find the intellectual disconnect really interesting. And kind of baffling, honestly.

i'm a pescatarian (no meat/poultry) and only eat organic and whole grain, and no alcohol at all.

i love and appreciate being "sarcastical" too, i was just correcting an inaccuracy in the op.

let me put it this way: too much cheerios can still send a diabetic to the e.r., yes, it's a better choice compared to most other cereals, and certainly better than those foods shown with higher content of refined sugar, but it's still sugar and quantity matters.

And whole fruits are good. Turn them into juice and remove the fiber and it's then a can of pop. Fructose is not good for you in quantity over long periods of time.

what is true though, is that we eat too much processed food (carbohydrates not in their natural state)

a few months ago I cut ALL added sugars out of my diet (only eat vegetables, whole fruits and small amt of grain)... the effect is astounding... I have lost all unhealthy cravings and the food I eat taste so rich and good... you are correct... we eat too much sugar!

I haven't bought sugar in years. I only buy artificial sweeteners. I buy sugar-free ice cream. Smuckers also makes a great sugar-free fudge syrup. And Godiva makes sugar-free chocolate candy. It all tastes great and if I didn't tell, you would think all that is totally fattening. I try to eat as sugar-free as possible as I am a borderline Type II diabetic.
